Saint Mark Daily Advent Devotional – December 2, 2014

by Jason Henderson

Scripture: 2 Peter 1:12-21

In this passage, Peter knows that his time is short and that he will soon be leaving the “tent of this body.”  Peter wanted to remind us, even impress upon us, the importance of the truth that is our Lord Jesus Christ.  Peter did not live and ultimately die for “cleverly devised stories.”  He was a direct witness to the life and teachings of our Savior.   He heard the voice of God in all of its majestic glory declare, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

It is our love, it is our hope and it is our peace to know and follow Jesus today.   Right now it might feel like “a light shining in a dark place,” but let it grow and soon the day will dawn and the morning star will rise in our hearts.  Jesus lives!

Prayer: Giver of all light and life, help us to always remember the way that is Christ Jesus.  Help us to shine your light to those who are wandering in dark places. Amen
